Pool Safety Operating Procedures (PSOP)
School Year 2012-2013
Parents/Guardians and Swimmers
Normal Operating Plan (NOP)
- St. Andrew’s School Swimming Pool
- Entry by double glazed pool door.
- Overshoe covers must be worn.
- Change on pool side or the 2 poolside changing rooms.
- Toilets are located in the outside shower/changing rooms which can be accessed via shower door. Please be aware of the slippery floor surface and steps leading to shower/changing rooms.
- Toilets for adults are located by the other side of the gymnasium.
- Please shower before and after swimming.
- Eastbourne College Swimming Pool
- Entry by double glazed pool door.
- Overshoe covers must be worn.
- Change in the nearby changing rooms on their own.
- Parents/Guardians are asked NOT to visit the changing rooms unless it is necessary.
- Toilets are located in the changing rooms.
- Toilets for adults are located by the swimming pool office.
- Please shower before and after swimming.
- Ocklynge School Swimming Pool
- Entry by pool door.
- Overshoe covers must be worn or shoes and socks taken off and put into store boxes.
- Change in the boys and girls changing rooms.
- Parents/Guardians are asked to visit only the same sex changing room if it is possible.
- Please be careful with the shelves at your head high in the changing rooms
- Please be careful stepping in and out of the shower area as there is a danger of tripping, slipping.
- Toilets are located next to the changing rooms.
- Please shower before and after swimming.
- No diving at any times.
General Poolside Rules
-
- No eating or drinking on poolside, except for water which is allowed for training and/or heat exhaustion prevention.
- No running.
- No pushing.
- No fighting.
- No ducking.
- No throwing.
- No diving in the shallow end.
- No jumping unless supervised.
- Use of the swimming starting blocks only under supervision.
- No sitting on lane ropes.
- No underwater swimming unless supervised.
- Swimming hats and goggles are strongly recommended to be used.
- No loud talking.
- No use of mobile phones.
- No videos, photographs allowed to be taken without seeing a prior consent
- One long whistle = Clear the pool!
- Three whistles = Emergency. Clear the pool!
Emergency Action Plan (EAP)

- In case of an emergency situation such as fire, power failure, bomb threat, etc. three whistles will be blown and the pool has to be evacuated immediately.
- The building has to be evacuated in a calm and reasonable manner.
- Please do not run and follow the green “exit” signs.
- Your fire officer is the pool branch leader who has the name sheets.
- The swimmers, parents/guardians and teachers have to assemble in the designated area outside of the pool building.
- In case of drowning three whistles will be blown and the pool has to be cleared. The swimmers may remain on poolside.
- Emergency phones are situated in the pool offices.
- Emergency First Aid Kits are located on the poolside or pool office area. They should only be used by a qualified member of staff.
